“This week, we chatted to Rebecca Parker of Rockaway Acupuncture, who owns and operates the private practice out of her home in Rockaway Beach. Rebecca is also co-owner of Brooklyn Open Acupuncture, a busy community acupuncture clinic in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, where she practices part-time in her “high-volume, sliding-scale clinic.”
Acupuncture is a form of alternative medicine originating in China over 2000 years ago, which involves the insertion of very thin needles through the skin at key points on the body. Rebecca has been practicing acupuncture and herbal medicine since 2008, having developed an interest in it while working as a bike messenger in Philadelphia in her early twenties.
‘After an accident that left me unable to ride or work, a co-worker recommended his acupuncturist, and I was impressed by how quickly I was able to get back on my bike,’ she recalled. ‘After using acupuncture for various physical, mental, and spiritual conditions over the years, I decided to study and become an acupuncturist.’”
